Don't take anything personally

The words and actions of others are a reflection of their own world… their beliefs, fears, and experiences, not a verdict on you. When someone judges, criticizes, or lashes out, it’s not about you; it’s about them. To not take things personally is to claim your freedom, to protect your peace, and to rise above reactive pain. Your self-worth does not depend on others’ opinions. Respond from presence, not projection. Keep asking yourself… what would love do?

Did You Know? Studies show that people who cultivate emotional detachment from others’ judgments experience lower stress, greater clarity, and healthier relationships. When you stop absorbing the projections of others, you reclaim your energy and your joy.

Whispers from the village / If you knew me well, you’d know…:

One of the agreements I live by is take nothing personally.

And I’ve really had to lean into that recently.

I was on Travel Guides, filming in Ireland with Andie, opening the new season in a completely new format.

And between you and me… I wasn’t at my best. I wasn’t well. That first week, I had really heavy, painful periods.I could feel it in my body… and I could see it on my face. I wasn’t fully comfortable in the experience.

But we showed up. We did our best. I did my best. And then the show went to air… and the public had a lot to say. Some people felt we weren’t the right fit at all—and they were very vocal about it.

And here’s the thing…that’s their perspective. That’s their moment. It doesn’t actually define me. There were lots of comments… and I didn’t take them personally.

Because I know who I am. I know what I brought which was the best I had at the time. And I know what was going on behind the scenes that no one else could see.

So I let it move through. No gripping. No defending. No shrinking. Just a moment in time…another experience.

Invitation: Reflection Pause. Each evening for 5 days, recall a moment when someone’s words or actions triggered you. Ask: “Is this about me, or is this their story?” Breathe, release judgment, and affirm: “I am not responsible for the feelings of others. I hold my own peace.”

Affirmation: I choose not to take anything personally. I release others’ projections and protect my heart. I respond from presence, not reaction.

Contemplations:

How would your life shift if you stopped absorbing the opinions, judgments, or criticisms of others?

Which interactions today are teaching you to hold your own energy and respond with clarity and love?

Other people’s words are mirrors, not chains,
Their storms are theirs, not my pains.
I stand unshaken, calm, and free,
Not everything is about me.
