A Grown-up's Guide to Christmas with the Whole Family

Christmas is not just a holiday, it’s a live emotional obstacle course. Do you know what I mean?

Old roles resurface. Buttons can get pressed. Someone will ask a question they absolutely should not. And yet… there’s love here too. My whole family on both sides call me ‘Lucy’ and sometimes I feel like I still get treated like that little kid or looked at like I’m a bit ‘intergalactic’.

So this year, together, let’s do it consciously. Ha!

Arrive as your current self standing your SACRED GROUND, not the version you were at 8, 12, 22, or during “that shit year they most remember you for.” You don’t need to explain your life, justify your choices, or shrink to keep the peace. Your presence is enough. You are enough. Your nervous system is not here to be shrunk or sacrificed for tradition and to make others ‘comfy’.

Remember my gorgeous tribe…

Curiosity is more powerful than defensiveness.

Boundaries are not walls; they’re doorways with clear signage.

You can love people deeply without agreeing with them or indulging their projections.

If an awkward or rude comment lands, breathe. Pause. Respond and don’t react. Kindness is so powerful. A gentle redirect, a touch of humour, or a graceful “I’m actually really happy with how things are” can be revolutionary. Hold your head high.

Let yourself enjoy the moments that are good. The shared laughter. The familiar food. The stories you’ve heard a thousand times but secretly love. And when it’s too much? Step outside. Go to the bathroom. Pet the dog. Touch the earth. Regulate.

You’re allowed to leave early. You’re allowed to take up space. You’re allowed to be joyful and discerning.

This Christmas, be the calm in the room… not by managing everyone else, but by being anchored in yourself.

That’s the real gift. You’re the gift. Be the love. What would love do? Lead from there. You got it! Have a good one!
